We Had It Good, Didn't We???

I know most of you have read things like this before, but I never tire of remembering "the good old days". So, here it is again, just for fun.....

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets. Not to mention the risks we took hitchhiking.

As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags.Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle. We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank Kool-aid made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because, WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet or chat rooms........WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law! These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever! The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!

If YOU are one of the baby boomers, CONGRATULATIONS! You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids during this era.

While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave (and lucky) their parents were. (Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?!) LOL!
Jay Leno puts it nicely, as well: "With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?"

So enjoy your day, all those that "survived" the baby boomer years! Wasn't life great??

Baby It's C-O-L-D Outside!!

I was up before dawn (my normal) to go to work. It was 8 degrees. Luckily, we had no wind. I stepped off my porch and started up the walk to the garage, noticing my warm breath against the cold. Usually I might be grumbling about how cold it is and how I couldn't wait to get into the warm car that my sweet husband usually starts for me.

I stopped and glanced up at the sky, and after a pause, I reminded myself of what a beautiful world we have. The inky black sky with a bright, beautiful moon and the stars as a backdrop. The moon seemed particularly bright this morning, almost like it was a gift.

I took a few moments before the hustle and bustle of the day, while I was alone, just to ponder and give the Lord thanks for the beautiful morning and the start of another day. I'm wishing for all of you today, a few moments to enjoy those beautiful gifts we have been given. Enjoy your day!

God Bless,
Kitty

Belated Valentines

You all remember that "B-E-A-U-T-F-U-L" vintage valentine box that Heather's hubby gave to her for Valentine's Day! If not, pop on over to Pretty Petals Blog and see for yourself (click here). Well, the day I picked that up for Hubby Joe, I bought two for myself. I wanted you all to get a load of these. (Forgive the bad quality of the pictures, it was a gray day, the lighting was bad, need I say more! )

Needless to say, I am JUST DELIGHTED to own these gorgeous vintage candy heart boxes! Both have gorgeous fabrics and of the big one has those lovely, lovely, millinery flowers!

Well, gotta go. Lots to do today. You all have a wonderful day! Talk to you soon.....

Don't Ya LOVE Those Vintage Valentines!

I cannot believe it's been two months since I sat down and wrote a post! You girls will all have to forgive me. I know that most of you know that my Dad passed away last October and I've been busy trying to get my Mom back on track. She's coming along, and although she misses my Dad so very much, she is getting stronger every day. I hope this Valentine's Day she will have wonderful, heart-felt memories of my Dad and the love they shared.

In honor of this, I've decided to show you some vintage valentines I found out on the web. These are so adorable. There's the classic ones we all know and love from the good old U.S. But there is just a "smattering" of adorable German valentines, as well.

Enjoy the show! And Happy Valentines Day to all of you!

Check out the old radio! Don't you just love those mary jane shoes!

Interesting they are both wearing mary jane's?? Love those outfits!! LOL!

Cool Car!

I think this is one of my all time favorites! That sweet little face!

Nothing beats the colors on those German valentines! Gorgeous!

I can't quite figure this one out. Is she going to hit him? (or maybe her?)

Of course we had to throw in a dog! Couldn't find a cat.
